Study There were a number of very worthy candidates for each of the awards
this year which only underscores the quality of the individuals who are committed
to training and to those students participating in these experiences. The Awards
Committee would like to thank all of the candidates and their sponsors for their
time and efforts. The APPIC Board of Directors would like to remind all
members that the awards will be presented at the APPIC Annual Business meeting
which will be held on Thursday, August 6th, 2009, 8 to 10AM at the International
Hotel in Toronto, Canada in Ballroom A. Members of the 2009

APPIC RESEARCH AWARD
(1) APPIC STUDENT RESEARCH
AWARD EXCELLENCE AWARDS:
The APPIC Board of Directors offers two annual Awards for Training Excellence.
The two Awards provide recognition of distinguished achievement in training and
teaching in APPIC Member internship and postdoctoral training settings. Outstanding
accomplishment may be recognized in any one of three areas: internship training,
postdoctoral training, or diversity training. WHO
CAN BE NOMINATED:Nominees for one of the two APPIC Training Excellence
Awards should be outstanding individual psychologists who demonstrate: [1] a history
of excellence in innovative training & teaching in APPIC member internship
and postdoctoral training programs, and/or [2] a history of administrative activities
that support and advance innovative training and teaching in APPIC member programs. Nominees
must work at an APPIC Member training site. Any individual who makes outstanding
contributions to training is eligible. Nominees do not have to be a Training Director.
Any individual or group can submit nominations, but the nominator(s) must be faculty,
staff member, administrator, Training Director, or trainee at an APPIC Member
Internship or Postdoctoral training program. Self-nominations are not permitted. NOMINATION
PROCEDURES:Nominations should be in the form of a letter no more than
two pages in length. The nominating statement should be in the first sentence
and clearly specify the specific training award for which recognition is sought.
The two award categories are: [1] internship or postdoctoral training, or [2]
diversity training. The nomination letter should provide the reasons and information
that supports the nomination. Letters that request recognition for MORE than ONE
award will not be reviewed. The nominating statement should be sent as
an e-mail attachment (MS Word or PDF). Nominators should inform the nominee that
his or her name is being submitted. An electronic copy of the nominee's CV must
also be submitted, and should be sent as an e-mail attachment. SELECTION
OF AWARD WINNERS:The APPIC Training Awards Committee reviews the nominations
and then makes recommendations to the APPIC Board of Directors. The Board of Directors
makes the final decisions. Faculty, staff members, administrators, or trainees
(current or former) at APPIC member sites are encouraged to submit nominations.
The Awards Committee may keep applications for up to three years to review for
selection in subsequent years. The three awards are presented at the APPIC Business
Meeting held at the APA Annual Conference. Each winner receives a plaque, a check
for $500, and an award citation to be published in the APPIC Newsletter. APPIC
STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD: APPIC is proud to announce the annual APPIC
STUDENT RESEACH AWARD to encourage and support supervision and training research.
APPIC will award $500.00 to the recipient. The purpose of this award is to acknowledge
the contributions interns and postdoctoral fellows make to the supervision and
training literature. Nominations procedure:
Any APPIC member or subscriber training director may nominate a current
intern/post-doctoral fellow who is conducting or has completed research in the
area of supervision and training. Nominations are submitted via e-mail. The
nominator should include an abstract of the nominated research, written by the
trainee. This abstract must be no longer than 500 words in length
and should highlight the training implications and utility of the research project.
Abstracts exceeding 500 words will not be considered for the award. Review
process: Members of the APPIC Research Committee review the nominations
and make a recommendation to the APPIC Board of Directors. The APPIC Board of
Directors makes the final decision. Awarding the Award: The
APPIC Research Award is awarded during the APPIC Business meeting at the annual
APA Convention. Although we welcome the attendance of the recipient of
this award, there is no requirement that the winner be present to accept the award.
If not in attendance, APPIC will mail the award to the recipient. QUESTIONS? Questions
