APPIC's Conservation Efforts

For almost 20 years, APPIC and the Central Office staff have been forward
thinking about conserving the earth's resources. See below for APPIC's track record
for being ecologically aware and acting responsibly: Since: 1991
- Recycled toner cartridges 1991 - Used white paper recycle bins 1991
- Printers are set for duplex printing 1993 - Increased face-to-face Board
meeting efficiency by discussing issues on email. 1997 - to Present APPIC
Conference attendees have been asked to recycle plastic name badge holders by
depositing in baskets at the end of the conference. These badges are then used
at future conferences. 1998 - APPIC Clearinghouse began Broadcast Faxing
instead of mailing to participants and the Clearinghouse is now is done by List
Serve and email. 1999 - Monthly Board Conference Calls have decreased
the time spent in face-to-face meetings 2000 to present - Removed our
name from junk faxes and unsolicited magazines and advertisements in US mail.
2001 to present - Scan rather than print and mail conference program and workshop
documents to Kinkos in each conference city, eliminating paper and postage.
2006 - Eliminated the mailing of Membership Dues/Match Fee and replaced it
with email attachments. 2006 - Use of online banking has reduced stamps
and paper from mailing. 2007 - Internship and Postdoctoral Application
membership Committees no longer need to travel to meet in person. Instead, the
committees can choose to meet via teleconference to review applications scanned
in from Central Office. 2008 - Eliminated the mailing of Subscriber and
Match Fee Invoices and replaced it with emailed invoice attachments. 2008
- The printed hard copy of the APPIC Directory was eliminated and can instead
be accessed online in PDF format. 2008 - The hard copy of the APPIC Newsletter
was eliminated and replaced with an e-Newsletter. Archived versions are available
online. 2008 - Board Meeting Agenda books are now scanned into flash drives
eliminating duplicating many documents for each Board member, and thus saving
paper.
