2020 APPIC Conference - Ethics Panel

Title: Navigating Ethical & Professional Challenges in Health Service Psychology Training: Strategies & Resources

Authors: Aosved, A. C., Davis, C., Hurley, D., and Self, M.

This panel will serve as a follow-up from the 2018 membership conference presentation which educated conference attendees about two APPIC resources (IPC) and APPIC Standards and Review Committee (ASARC) as well as common training challenges and ethical difficulties experienced by psychology doctoral internship and postdoctoral training programs. During this presentation, a subset of the APPIC board will lead a panel discussion on lessons learned from the last decade of IPC requests. Specifically, common IPC themes related to 1) problems of professional competence in trainees, 2) difficulties at training sites/program, and 3) problems encountered by doctoral program DCTs will be reviewed. Audience participation will be encouraged via small group tasks designed to encourage use of ethical decision making skills applied to training related vignettes based on common themes represented in APPIC IPCs. Diversity will be addressed within the vignettes as well as the related discussion questions. Finally, common recommendations from IPC consultants will be shared with the audience.
