Abstract:

The New Training Directors workshop is designed to provide new or early career training directors at an internship or postdoc training program with helpful information about the many roles involved in coordinating a training program. The workshop will also review stages of trainee development, organizing training tasks, the AAPI and internship selection, APPIC membership criteria, diversity variables in training, trainee and program evaluation, and due process and grievance procedures. This basic workshop will provide important groundwork to assist with being a successful training director.



Learning Objectives:

1. Identify stages of trainee development.

2. Identify the core and ancillary tasks of a training director/coordinator

3. Discuss effective strategies for managing internship and postdoctoral programs.

4. Identify important aspects of the annual training timeline.

5. Describe the many roles and relationships associated with the training director/coordinator position and ways to best manage them.
