The Association of Postdoctoral and Psychology Internship Centers (APPIC) values diversity, inclusion, equity, and self-examination in all training environments. It is committed to promoting diversity in all aspects of training and ensuring that such issues remain in the consciousness of the organization.
The Diversity Committee of APPIC seeks to fulfill this through the following mission:
- Disseminating information on multicultural and diversity training to members of the psychology training community.
- Encouraging the understanding of and sensitivity to individual and cultural diversity, while integrating such understanding into all forms of training from selection to service delivery, and supervision of interns and postdoctoral fellows.
- Facilitating the development of professionally relevant knowledge and skills focused on working effectively with all individuals inclusive of demographics, beliefs, attitudes, and values.
- Supporting the examination of attitudes, assumptions, behaviors, and values in the decision making process for supervisors and trainees, both personally and professionally.
- Promoting the examination of diversity factors in evaluation, problem resolution, remediation planning, and due process.
- Promoting the discussion of diversity in relevant selection and training issues for interns and postdoctoral fellows.
- Encouraging ethical and culturally appropriate research in all areas of diversity in training and supervision.
