The Department of Psychiatry at Dartmouth Health and the Geisel School of Medicine announces openings for our Postdoctoral Fellowship in Psychology in the areas of Anxiety Disorders Treatment (1 position), Mood Disorders (1 position), Digestive Health (1 position), and Child & Pediatric Psychology (1 position), beginning in summer or fall of 2025 (start date flexible). Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, the flagship hospital of the Dartmouth Health system, is an academic medical center located in the Upper Valley region of New England, serving both suburban and rural populations across New Hampshire and Vermont. Affiliated with the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, the Department of Psychiatry offers postdoctoral clinical psychology training which emphasizes empirically-based psychotherapies, including cognitive-behavioral and acceptance-based approaches, and integration of science and practice within outpatient and integrated care settings (see specific track descriptions below). Opportunities to engage in on-going research are also available and encouraged throughout the postdoctoral fellowship, in addition to other opportunities for educational and professional development. The mission of the Dartmouth Health Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship Program is to provide excellent training opportunities that prepare clinical psychologists for success in the next stage of their professional life, including in areas of clinical service, research, and program development.

For all fellowships, all doctoral degree requirements must be met prior to start date, including completion of an APA or CPA accredited doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology and clinical internship, and successful completion of dissertation defense.
Fellowship Track Descriptions:
Anxiety Disorders Fellowship (1 position): The Anxiety Disorders Service (ADS) postdoctoral fellowship includes advanced diagnostic evaluation and case conceptualization using functional analysis and empirically-supported assessment measures, and treatment services using cognitive-behavioral therapies, with an emphasis on exposure-based treatment. As part of the ADS fellowship, postdoctoral fellows will:
- Work as part of the Anxiety Disorders Service team, conducting outpatient intervention and assessment of a range of anxiety and fear-based disorders, including anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and illness anxiety disorder (health anxiety). Fellows receive training in exposure-based interventions, cognitive-behavioral therapies, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Fellows seeking additional training in trauma-focused interventions acquire skilled delivery of Prolonged Exposure and Cognitive Processing Therapy. (60%)
- Engage in clinical training opportunities in a selected area of minor specialization including psycho-oncology, gastrointestinal illnesses, or mood disorders (20%)
- Participate in weekly seminars and didactics (10%)
- Have opportunities to collaborate on ongoing research focused on treatment of health anxiety, investigating implementation of evidence-based interventions, studies exploring brain-behavioral relationships in OCD, or quality improvement projects. (10%)
- Receive weekly supervision from licensed clinical psychologist(s) with expertise in assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders.

Mood Disorders Fellowship (1 position): The Mood Disorders Service (MDS) postdoctoral fellowship includes advanced diagnostic evaluation and case conceptualization using functional analysis and empirically-supported assessment measures, and treatment services using cognitive-behavioral therapies, with an emphasis on exposure-based treatment. Digestive Health Fellowship (1 position): The Digestive Health postdoctoral fellowship provides specialty training focused on the interface between psychology and medicine for treatment of digestive health conditions. Fellows will receive training in comprehensive psychosocial evaluations, the application of evidence-based treatments to specific disease groups, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. As part of the digestive health fellowship, postdoctoral fellows will:
- Work embedded in Gastroenterology & Hepatology treating a wide range of digestive diseases, including disorders of gut-brain interaction (e.g., irritable bowel syndrome), motility disorders (e.g., gastroparesis), inflammatory bowel disease, and liver and pancreatic conditions. Fellows also have the option to complete training in gut-directed hypnotherapy, an evidence-based treatment for disorders of gut-brain interaction. (40%)
- Work embedded in Weight & Wellness supporting bariatric surgery patients as well as non-surgical patients. Fellows will get experience completing bariatric surgery evaluations, and treating mild to moderate eating disorders (e.g., binge eating), internalized weight stigma and difficulties with body acceptance. (20%)
- Engage in clinical training opportunities in a selected area of minor specialization, for example psycho-oncology, mood disorders, anxiety disorders & PTSD (20%)
- Participate in weekly seminars and didactics (10%)
- Have opportunities to collaborate on ongoing research focused on improving access to care in GI populations, use of technology to enhance care for rural populations, assessment and treatment of sleep disorders in inflammatory bowel disease, or quality improvement projects. (10%)
- Receive weekly supervision from licensed clinical psychologist(s) with expertise in assessment and treatment of digestive disorders.

Child & Pediatric Fellowship (1 position): The Child and Pediatric Psychology Fellowship provides training in interdisciplinary settings across the academic medical center. Training clinics include the multidisciplinary outpatient child psychotherapy clinic, neurodevelopmental clinic for children and adolescents on the autism spectrum, and embedded medical services including primary care and sleep medicine. Fellows gain expertise treating a broad range of presenting concerns including ADHD, conduct problems, trauma, anxiety, depression, OCD, and medical specialty populations.
- In the Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic, psychology fellows train alongside child psychiatry fellows in our interdisciplinary psychotherapy clinic focused on providing a generalist training experience. Fellows will hone their skills across modalities of treatment including individual therapy, behavioral parent training, family therapy, and group therapy experiences. We tailor the cases that fellow’s receive to match their training needs and interests and also provide fellows the opportunity to practice their supervisory skills by working with one of our less experienced trainees.
- Work as part of the Behavioral and Neurodevelopmental Services (BANDS) team, with a focus in intervention and/or assessment depending on applicant interest. Fellows receive training in adapting evidence-based interventions for autistic and neurodivergent youth and families, including the opportunity to co-facilitate a behavior parent training group (RUBI). If of interest, applicants may participate in conducting diagnostic evaluations for autism and other common co-occurring conditions. Fellows receive specialized training and experiences using gold standard testing instruments and providing feedback to youth and families. (20-30%)
- Engage in clinical training opportunities in a selected area of minor specialization including primary care or sleep medicine (20%)
- Participate in weekly seminars and didactics (10%)
- The post-doc will have opportunities to collaborate on ongoing research focused on increasing access to rural and under-served communities that are unable to access treatment as usual. The current focus of this research is increasing access to evidence-based approaches to working with disruptive behaviors. Our program also encourages our postdocs to engage in quality improvement projects. (10%)
- Receive weekly supervision from licensed clinical psychologist(s) with expertise in assessment and treatment of internalizing and externalizing behavior disorders, developmental disorders, and the intersection of medicine and psychology.

Situated on the Vermont/New Hampshire boarder, we have easy access to a range of outdoors and cultural events and activities, including easy access to the Connecticut River, the Green Mountains of Vermont and the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and excellent hiking, skiing, and rock climbing. This location also provides easy access to cultural events and visual and performing art, including the Lebanon Opera House, Northern Stage, and Dartmouth College, all within 10-15 minutes. The Dartmouth Coach service also provides easy access to Boston (2 hours) and New York City (4.5 hours).
