Statistics for Applicants from Canadian Schools and Programs in Canada

The number of applicants from Canadian schools who registered for the APPIC Match this year decreased by 16 (8%) to 197, while the number of positions in Canada was unchanged at 150. A total of 147 applicants from Canadian schools were matched to an internship position, while 29 applicants were not matched and another 21 withdrew from Phase I or did not submit a Rank Order List. Nine positions in Canada remained unfilled from Phase I.
Despite the improvement this year in the overall imbalance between applicants from Canadian schools and positions in Canada, the number of applicants in 2013 still exceeded the number of positions by 47.
Five years ago, in the 2008 APPIC Match, the number of internship positions available in Canada (127) exceeded the number of applicants from Canadian schools (120) who registered for the Match. Since that time, the number of registered applicants from Canadian schools has increased by 64% (120 to 197) while the number of internship positions in Canadian programs has increased by 18% (127 to 150).
