The 2019 APPIC Match marked the first time since 2008 that the number of internship positions in Canada exceeded the number of registered applicants from Canadian schools.

Compared to the 2018 APPIC Match, the number of registered applicants from Canadian schools increased by 15 (9%) to 184 applicants, while the number of internship positions in Canada increased by 27 (17%) to 189 positions. The number of participating training sites increased by 20% (from 41 to 49).

A total of 158 applicants from Canadian schools were matched to an internship position in Phase I, while 14 applicants were not matched and another 12 withdrew or did not submit a Rank Order List. A total of 32 positions in Canada remained unfilled from Phase I.
