Overall, the imbalance between applicants from Canadian schools and internship positions in Canada showed significant improvement this year. Compared to the 2013 Match, the number of registered applicants from Canadian schools decreased by 10 (5%) to 187 applicants, while the number of internship positions in Canada increased by 16 (11%) to 166 positions.

A total of 147 applicants from Canadian schools were matched to an internship position, while 24 applicants were not matched and another 16 withdrew from Phase I or did not submit a Rank Order List. A total of 24 positions in Canada remained unfilled from Phase I.

Despite the improvement this year in the overall imbalance between applicants from Canadian schools and positions in Canada, the number of applicants still exceeded the number of positions by 21 (187 vs. 166).

Six years ago, in the 2008 APPIC Match, the number of internship positions available in Canada (127) exceeded the number of registered applicants from Canadian schools (120). Since that time, the number of registered applicants from Canadian schools has increased by 56% (120 to 187) while the number of internship positions in Canadian programs has increased by 31% (127 to 166).
