The Clinical Psychology Internship Program at the University of Vermont is a new program. We recently applied for APPIC membership and expect to hear the results in April 2013. Additionally, we had an APA site visit (November, 2012) and are awaiting information regarding our accreditation status. The internship is located in Burlington, Vermont, within the Behavior Therapy and Psychotherapy Center (BTPC; housed in the Psychology Department at UVM) and the Vermont Center for Children, Youth and Families (VCCYF; housed in the Division of Child Psychiatry at UVM). All interns will train in both programs, working at both sites throughout the internship year and engaging in clinical work and research.

The focus of intern training at the BTPC is with the Connecting Cultures Specialty Service, providing culturally competent evidence-based treatment to torture survivors and refugee populations from over 25 countries. Interns in the Connecting Cultures Specialty Service also engage in multi-disciplinary services with providers including social workers, teachers, lawyers, and refugee advocates. In addition to direct clinical services, the Connecting Cultures program offers outreach services, presentations and evaluation/research opportunities. Connecting Cultures is also a component of the New England Survivors of Torture and Trauma (NESTT) program.

The VCCYF specializes in the application of evidence-based strategies from the family perspective, addressing both child and parental emotional and behavioral problems. Through the use of health promotion, prevention, and intervention, the VCCYF uses the Vermont Family Based Approach to help the well remain well, prevent at-risk children from developing emotional and behavioral problems, and intervene comprehensively on behalf of children and families challenged by psychopathology. At the VCCYF, interns will collaborate with professionals in psychiatry, psychology, social work, nursing, and genetics.

We currently have two interns placed in the Clinical Psychology Internship Program at the University of Vermont (CPIP at UVM). Although we are pursuing membership, the CPIP at UVM is not an APPIC Member and there is no guarantee that the program will ultimately be successful in attaining APPIC membership. Similarly, we had an APA site visit in November 2012 but we are not accredited and there is no guarantee that we will ultimately be successful in attaining APA accreditation.

Immaculata's Predoctoral Internship Consortium is pleased to announce two full-time internship positions for Drexel University Student Counseling Center, Philadelphia, PA. Internship year begins July 1, 2013.

The Drexel University Student Counseling Center offers varied clinical experiences for psychology interns, who provide direct services to students at Drexel University, Main Campus and Drexel University College of Medicine, Center City campus. The intern’s primary responsibilities include: psychotherapy, assessment and evaluation, consultation and psychoeducation/campus outreach.

Specifically, interns conduct initial clinical interviews/intakes, carry a caseload of approximately 15-20 clients, provide individual and couples therapy and conduct one group each term. Interns also handle all aspects of case management including treatment planning, file management, client database entry, progress notes and referrals for psychiatric medication consultations. In addition, interns maintain an on-call schedule (carry a phone for 1 week every 2-3 months); and respond to walk-in clients who are seeking therapy or are in crisis on an as-needed basis. Consultation with University faculty, staff and administrators, as well as with psychiatrists or others relevant to the intern’s caseload is also expected.
