MATCH REGISTRATION
1. How do I register for the APPIC Match?
Applicants who wish to apply to internship programs that participate in the APPIC Match must first register for the Match and receive a unique, five-digit Match Code Number in order to participate in the Match. The Match registration fee covers your participation in both phases of the Match.
IMPORTANT NOTE: You must be deemed eligible for internship and approved to participate in the Match by your doctoral program prior to registering for the Match. Please consult with your Director of Clinical Training (DCT) to confirm your eligibility before registering. The Match registration fee is NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-TRANSFERABLE to future Matches.
Applicants must to register for the Match prior to submitting their applications to internship sites. Applicants receive a five digit "Match Code Number" upon Match registration that must be included on their applications. Applicants who do not register during Phase I are permitted to register during Phase II, but, as noted above, must register before submitting an application.
Applicants may register for the APPIC Match by going to the National Matching Services (NMS) web site. You are not registered for the APPIC Match until you have completed the online Match registration process and have received your five-digit Match Code Number from NMS. Please note that APPIC Match registration is a completely separate process from the AAPI (APPIC Application for Psychology Internships) registration -- in other words, applicants must register separately for both the AAPI AND the APPIC Match.
Registrations that occur after December 31 must be explicitly authorized by the student's Director of Clinical Training.
2. What if I want to participate in the Match with a partner?
The Matching Program provides special procedures for couples who wish to attempt to coordinate their internship placements with each other. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions for Couples and the NMS web site (click on "Applicants," then "Participate as a Couple") for more information.
3. My doctoral program has determined that I won't be ready (due to delayed completion of my academic requirements) to participate in Phase I of the Match. However, if I complete those requirements in time to participate in Phase II, may I do so?
By far, the best scenario is for you to complete all academic requirements in a timely fashion so that you can be eligible to participate in both Phases of the Match. Students who participate only in Phase II will have far fewer sites to choose from (as compared to Phase I).
If you will NOT participate in Phase I of the Match but DO want to participate in Phase II, you should discuss your situation with your DCT. You may participate in Phase II if your academic requirements are completed in time and your doctoral program authorizes you to participate. You must not register for the Match until your doctoral program has authorized you to do so.
If your program authorizes you to participate in Phase II, you may register for the Match as described above.
