The Center for Pediatric Psychiatry at Children’s HealthSM in Dallas, Texas invites applicants for its APA-accredited Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Child Psychology beginning late August, 2024.  Six positions will be available within the Outpatient Psychology, Pediatric Health Psychology, or Eating Disorders concentrations:

Outpatient Psychology Concentration (2 positions)

General outpatient (1 position)

This position is focused on assessment and intervention for a diagnostically complex and high acuity population within an outpatient psychiatry clinic. Rotations for this position include:

  • Early Childhood Mental Health Clinic (ECMHC) - major rotation in multidisciplinary assessment of preschool-aged children with behavioral concerns
  • Therapeutic Assessment  - major rotation in collaborative assessment model aimed at helping families develop a new understanding of their child, utilizing cognitive/neuropsychological measures, structured observation, projective and relationship-based assessment
  • Outpatient Intervention - major rotation in individual and/or family therapy and parent consultation, as well as advanced training in the treatment of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and depression; caseload shaped by fellow's interests and training goals
  • Functional Neurological Disorders Clinic - minor rotation in brief evaluation and consultation
  • Social Competence Intervention Program (SCIP) - co-facilitation of weekly social skills group

Suicide/depression (1 position)

The postdoc in the suicide/depression position will focus on evaluation and treatment of suicidality and depression in adolescents. Clinical experience occurs primarily within a multidisciplinary intensive outpatient program (IOP) that is based in CBT and DBT-informed skills. Postdocs provide individual, family, adolescent group, and multi-family group interventions. This position also provides the opportunity for a small outpatient caseload.

Fellows receive a comprehensive benefits package, which includes Paid Time Off (at an accrual rate of 7.7 hours/biweekly pay period, or approximately 25 days/year), as well as health insurance, prescription coverage, vision and dental insurance, and retirement savings plans. In addition to regular Paid Time Off, fellows are eligible for up to 10 paid education days per year for conferences, job interviews, taking the EPPP, and other professionally relevant activities. Children’s covers the cost of premiums for basic life insurance, basic AD&D coverage, and short and long-term disability insurance, and matches employee dependent care savings contributions at 25%, up to $1000/year. Fellows are also eligible for other employee savings programs, including discounts on services and products and subsidized regional public transit passes. Children’s covers the cost of professional liability insurance for psychology fellows.
Research opportunities
Opportunities are available for postdoctoral fellows to be involved in program development and research through fellow-directed project.

The Postdoctoral Fellowship Training Program in Clinical Child Psychology is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).
