Elements of quality clinically focused postdoctoral training

CENTER Psychology & Consulting provides evaluations, consultation, parent coaching and other services to the community. The current professional focus includes, but is not limited to, early childhood development; gifted intellect and developmental asynchrony; dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and other learning differences; ADHD and executive function impairments; and anxiety and mood disorders. Clinicians provide gifted assessment, school readiness assessment for preschool and kindergarten age children, and neurodevelopmental, neuropsychological, and psycho-educational assessment for children from preschool through high school as well as young adults, and their families. Some providers also offer solution-focused therapy, parent coaching, psychoeducation, and consultative services with parents and children.

Dr. Wingers and other clinicians also provide free or low-cost training and education in the community through The CENTER Well-Being Project - for school districts and parent groups locally and nationally. They present on their areas of research interest, which include but are not limited to: integrative approaches to mental health and well-being, executive function skill development in early childhood, differential diagnosis and gifted asynchrony, developmental assessment, early identification of gifted intellect, parents’ help-seeking during the gifted identification process, mindful practices for children, and mindful parenting. Client population is diverse in age, ethnicity, bilingualism, religious, cultural and socio-economic background. LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse-affirming.

The postdoctoral residency is completed through the Arizona Psychology Training Consortium with all applicable requirements outlined in the AzPTC Postdoctoral Training Agreement. The training agreement is personalized based on our mutually agreed upon goals. This includes determining the percentage of evaluation services, therapeutic services, and consultative services.

Residents' schedule will be Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-4:30 PM.

There is no exact number of hours per activity each week; it will vary based on the referral questions and time required, as well as the interests and desired specializations of the resident. Expect 40-50% direct service activities to include neuropsychological evaluations, with opportunities for therapy as well as psychoeducational training.
