The Psychology Training Program in the Department of Behavioral Health at Denver Health and Hospitals is accepting applications for one twelve-month postdoctoral psychology fellowships focused on clinical work and research with adults adversely impacted by opioid and other substance use disorders (OUDs and SUDs).The fellowship position is largely funded through a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to increase the psychology workforce trained and competent to help persons with OUDs and SUDs, especially those in high impact sites. The fellow will be part of an integrated safety net health care system that primarily serves a traditionally underserved, low income and ethnically diverse population.

Responsibilities for this position will be divided between clinical work (60%), program development or research (25%), teaching/supervision (10%) and didactics (5%). Clinical services are primarily in outpatient behavioral health, but may include, depending on need and on the person selected, the inpatient Addiction Consult Liaison Service or Correctional Psychology. The Postdoctoral Fellow will provide evidence-based individual treatment for those with OUDs and SUDs in the context of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and comorbid PTSD, major depression and other mental health and medical disorders. The Fellow is expected to facilitate expansion of group psychotherapy appropriate to the populations.

Program development and research will focus on increasing the knowledge base about the characteristics of individuals and families being impacted by high levels of SUDs as well as on methods to engage and retain patients in treatment. The Fellow will be actively engaged in supervision and mentoring of psychology interns in association with Denver Health’s APA-accredited psychology internship program.
