The American Psychological Association (APA) accredited George Mason University (GMU) Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to focus on services for veterans in our training clinic, the GMU Center for Community Mental Health. This position is a 1-year, full time position, with potential for renewal.

George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason’s academic and culturally inclusive environment.

About the Program: George Mason University is the largest, most diverse public research university in Virginia. The Clinical Psychology Program is committed to training graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to meet the evolving roles of clinical psychologists in an evidence-based and antiracist framework. Detailed information about the program, including its mission statement, can be found at https://clinical.gmu.edu/. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented minority groups to apply.

Responsibilities:

The postdoctoral fellow will gain experience providing critical mental health services for veterans. This is an excellent opportunity for a veteran-focused postdoctoral fellow in need of hours and experience for licensing.

This position will entail conducting independent medical evaluations for veterans with PTSD, substance use or other psychiatric disorders, in conjunction and coordination with our various legal partners (including the Virginia Department of Veteran Services, NVLSP, LSNV, other private law firms).

This fellow will also be available to provide evidence-based therapy services for veterans and their dependents. The fellow will complete 2-3 comprehensive assessments/independent medical evaluations per month, consult regularly with our legal partners, and see approximately 4 veteran-related therapy clients per week. Two supervisors, one who specializes in veteran testing, and one who has expertise in therapy for veterans, will provide supervision.

Other optional opportunities for gaining experience in supervision or specialty areas exist, as does the opportunity to work with Mason’s Military Veterans and Families Initiative.
