Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Student Counseling Services at Iowa State University is pleased to offer a Post-Doctoral Fellowship (post-doc) position for the 2024-2025 academic year. SCS is within the Division of Student Affairs. This is a 12-month, 2000-hour, full-time position with a preferred start date of August 1, 2024.This position affords the post-doc the opportunity to work in a dynamic university counseling center that serves a diverse undergraduate and graduate student body. Under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, the post-doc will provide individual, and group therapy from a short-term therapy model, conduct intake evaluations, crisis assessment and intervention, and provide outreach programs and consultation to the campus community.
There are also opportunities for supervision of trainees from a doctoral program in counseling psychology and to pursue concentration areas (for a semester). Potential concentration areas include the following: Diversity, Administration, Eating Disorders, Grief & Loss, Suicide Prevention, Group Therapy, Outreach, Training & Supervision, Trauma-Informed Care and Mind-Body.
The post-doc will attend regularly scheduled team meetings for case disposition and supervision as well as weekly staff meetings and trainings. The post-doc will receive a minimum of 1.5 hours of face-to-face weekly supervision from a licensed psychologist. Also, the post-doc will attend weekly training seminars that include professional development topics, supervision of supervision, and trainings on various clinical issues. Other interests and areas for training during the post-doctoral fellowship are negotiable with the SCS Training Director.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed the requirements for a doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology and an APA-accredited doctoral internship by the position start date.
Preferred Qualifications:
The selection committee seeks applicants who are knowledgeable of college student development, interested in working with a diverse university population, and have experience with crisis assessment and intervention. Strong candidates will also have experience with intakes/triage, providing clinical supervision, and facilitating group therapy or workshops.

Student Counseling Services (SCS) provides clinical and campus-based services to help students achieve their educational and personal goals. SCS supports the holistic well-being of every Iowa State student and promotes a healthy and inclusive community through clinical services, outreach, consultation, crisis intervention and collaboration with campus partners. SCS has a multi-disciplinary team, a doctoral practicum program, and a thriving group therapy program. SCS has been accredited by IACS since 1966.
COVID-19
Like many counseling centers, SCS modified its services to offer telehealth services in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As of Spring 2023, SCS continues to offer both in-person and telehealth services to clients, increasing accessibility and supporting students in keeping themselves and others safe. Student Counseling Services' staff, trainees, and clients are encouraged to follow ISU and CDC recommendations regarding masking.

Professional development leave and funds can be used for job interviews, EPPP, and attending conferences. The postdoc will work alongside senior staff and will have their own furnished counseling office that is equipped with a computer, phone, and video system.
