Postdoctoral Fellow – Youth and Young Adult Clinical Psychology

The American Psychological Association (APA) accredited George Mason University (GMU) Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program, is seeking a youth and young adult Focused Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow in our training clinic, the GMU Center for Community Mental Health.

This is a 1-year full time position, with potential for renewal. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason’s academic and culturally inclusive environment.

About the Program: George Mason University is the largest, most diverse public research university in Virginia. The Clinical Psychology Program is committed to training graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to meet the evolving roles of clinical psychologists in an evidence-based and antiracist framework. Detailed information about the program, including its mission statement, can be found at https://clinical.gmu.edu/. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented minority groups to apply.

Responsibilities: Join our Center team to provide evidence-based therapy and testing services to the greater Washington DC community, with a focus on cultural sensitivity, accessibility, and equity. Our Postdoctoral Fellow will have an opportunity to gain experience working with youth, young adults and nontraditional college students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.

Specifically, the fellow will engage in comprehensive testing of youth, and college students with ADHD, anxiety, depression and other comorbidities, and assist in developing appropriate treatment recommendations as well as recommendations for college accommodations. This will include consultation with our colleagues across George Mason University, as well as our psychiatric nurse practitioner.

Our Fellow has the opportunity to learn and offer brief intervention services through our unique stepped care model (https://ccmh.gmu.edu/services) and provide evidence-based therapy to adolescents and/or young adults seen in our community based clinic, based on preference.

Additional optional experiences include helping supervise doctoral students in our clinical science program, provide clinical services in pediatric primary care or the pediatric endocrine clinic, or other community-based projects of interest.

Specifically, our Fellow will work at the CCMH full time, dividing your time between comprehensive testing and therapy for adolescents, young adults and nontraditional college students. The Fellow will complete approximately two comprehensive assessments per month, with an adolescent, young adult and nontraditional college student focus. In addition, you will carry a caseload of approximately 4 clients for evidence based therapy, which may include hours within the stepped care model program, which specifically targets underserved populations. You will have the opportunity to see a range of clients presenting with different issues, including clients who self-identify with a range of identities.

There are additional opportunities to participate in monthly interdisciplinary case conferences with our psychiatric nurse practitioner colleagues who collaborate with us to provide sliding scale psychopharmacological services to our Center clients and opportunities to gain supervision experience of graduate students or externs. This is a great opportunity to gain hours for licensure and hone both testing and therapy skills. Supervision will be provided by a minimum of two supervisors, one for testing and one for therapy. Center therapy caseload will be adjusted if you choose to work in one of our community pediatric settings for ½ day/week.
