Overview:
Family Psychology Associates is pleased to offer a one-year Fellowship in clinical/counseling psychology in a private practice setting. FPA is a well-established agency, having been in service to the community for 30 years. We offer psychological testing for various conditions, along with counseling and psychotherapy for children, adolescents and adults. We receive a wide range of referrals from around Eastern Iowa. While our agency is for-profit, we accept all insurances, including Title 19 clients and offer some pro bono services.
Fellows will be invited to expand their knowledge of psychotherapies and psychological testing by seeing a wide range of clients. We have referrals from many physicians, attorneys, juvenile court, and other agencies. Fellows will work with 2 licensed psychologists, a psychometrist, and licensed mental health counselors. We also regularly have masters or doctoral level students on practicum and internship experiences, with whom the fellow can interact and may help to supervise.
A goal of the Fellowship program is to provide 2080 hours of specialized training (including paid time off, vacation and sick leave) in clinical/counseling psychology; 1500 hrs. will be supervised professional experience as required by the Board of Psychology in the State of Iowa for postdoctoral experience for licensure. The program will adhere to the scientist – practitioner model and provide weekly didactic and experiential training opportunities in clinical/counseling psychology. The Fellowship program is committed to training practitioners whose interventions are grounded in research evidence. Fellows will be trained to use a variety of treatment modalities, including's CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, self-regulation techniques, Motivational Interviewing, and behavior management strategies. Training and supervision and the use of various objective psychological test instruments is available, including cognitive and personality assessment. Fellows are strongly encouraged to seek out further training on their own in psychological assessment techniques and therapy techniques.
Training will focus on ethical, cultural, and diversity issues in relationship to assessment, intervention, and treatment planning. Fellows will have opportunities to supervise graduate students, provide workshops and trainings to staff, and are encouraged to attend spring and fall conferences of the Iowa Psychological Association. Fellows also receive support and designated time for EPPP and license preparation.
The Fellow will learn the business side of a small private practice group. The Fellow may have an opportunity to continue with the practice, including eventual leadership.
Fellows must have graduated with their PhD/PsyD from an APA approved psychology program and have at least applied for a temporary license to practice psychology. The fellow must be conscientious, motivated, self-directed, and able to function with a moderate amount of supervision.
Benefits:
The Fellow will receive a stipend of $45,000, 50% health insurance premium, and malpractice insurance. The Fellow will receive 2 weeks of vacation time and 6 days of sick leave/personal time. The Fellow can receive a stipend toward license fees.
Research Opportunities:
Research is not a major feature of this postdoc. Subject to the needs of FPA and the interests of the Fellow, some limited time for research may be available.

Required qualifications and applications materials include:
1. Completion of a doctorate in psychology from an APA/CPA accredited program.
2. Eligibility for Iowa Provisional Psychology Licensure.
3. Cover letter that describes your training goals for the Fellowship year; how you envision this training will further your professional identity as a practicing psychologist; your fit with the Fellowship program; and your interest in Family Psychology Associates specifically.
4. Current CV that includes a description of your internship rotations and anticipated graduation date.
5. Graduate transcripts associated with training for your degree (masters and doctoral) - an unofficial transcript is acceptable.
6. Three letters of recommendation, at least 1 of which is from a clinical supervisor familiar with your work with clients, including describing progress you have made in your training thus far.
7. A de-identified work sample according to HIPAA standards. The work sample can be a comprehensive treatment summary/plan or a psychological assessment report.
