The CWC training program adheres to the American Psychological Association’s profession-wide competency of individual and cultural diversity along with the mental health code of ethics and state laws and rules. We believe that this training is vital to all parts of counselor development and competence and thus, is incorporated into all areas of supervision, training seminars, evaluations, and professional activities.

The training program is also committed to cultivating an atmosphere that is conducive to learning by providing clinical postdoc fellows with an appropriate blend of support and challenge. Postdoctoral fellows are treated as early career professionals and as such, are given a great deal of autonomy and responsibility. Simultaneously, postdoctoral fellows will receive the professional support necessary to allow for their continued professional development.

Postdoctoral fellows will be expected to fulfill the multiple roles of a university counseling center clinician, depending on the specialty focus.  This may include all or some of the following: counseling services (individual, couples, and/or group counseling), assessment, crisis intervention, referral, consultation, outreach, supervision of student trainees (as available), participation in staff meetings and training seminars, and timely completion of necessary administrative functions. Postdoctoral fellows will receive a minimum of 2 hour of face-to-face individual and 1 1/2 hour group supervision weekly and be provided with various professional development opportunities.

The CWC's assessment service focuses on services most relevant to the UCC setting (ADHD/LD and psychosocial testing as well as screening for autism). The postdoc choosing to specialize in psychological assessment will focus on gaining competence in the provision of comprehensive and brief assessments, training, administration, and integrative strengths-based report writing, through didactics, observation, supervised and independent assessments, provision of secondary supervision to advanced practicum students and interns, and participation in the administrative aspects of the assessment service program. In addition, opportunities are available to provide assessment seminars to interns and practicum clinicians and participate in program development.
