The RUSH MD Anderson Cancer Center section of Supportive Oncology, and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, are recruiting for 1-2 full-time, one-year (2025-2026) Postdoctoral Fellow(s) in Psychosocial Oncology for our growing interdisciplinary program serving individuals with cancer. Ideal candidates will have clinical experience in psycho-oncology or working with patients with serious physical illness. Additionally, ideal candidates will have a research background with peer-reviewed publications and be interested in establishing a scientist-practitioner career. Here at Rush,
Supportive Oncology is a comprehensive suite of services designed to improve the quality of life, quality of care, and outcomes for patients with cancer. Supportive Oncology services are integrated into the RUSH MD Anderson Cancer Center and are specifically targeted to enhance the health and well-being of our patients and their caregivers. We work at the intersection of physical, psychological, social, and behavioral aspects of the cancer experience for both patients and caregivers across disease sites and across the cancer continuum (from prevention through end of life). The mission of the Supportive Oncology program is to: 1) decrease distress and improve quality of life using evidence-informed practices; 2) connect people with the resources they need; and 3) decrease symptom burden associated with cancer or its treatment.
The Psychosocial Oncology team helps to accomplish this mission via the delivery of consultation, liaison, evaluation, and psychotherapy services in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. Fellow(s) will have opportunities to work with a varied oncology population and integrate onto multidisciplinary care teams including but not limited to Bone Marrow Transplant and Breast Oncology. Additional opportunities may include program development, delivery of group therapy, research, and provision of group and individual supervision to residents and/or externs. Fellows frequently work with other Supportive Oncology providers (psychiatry, chaplaincy, dietetics, acupuncture, massage therapy, social work, palliative care) to provide patients with comprehensive and integrated services. Fellows will be asked to assist with facilitating health psychology didactics and will be encouraged to take advantage of a variety of other educational opportunities including psychology didactics, psychiatry and medical center grand rounds and Supportive Oncology collaborative team meetings. Rush is committed to diversity and inclusion and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We welcome and encourage applications from candidates that are from underrepresented minority and culturally diverse groups. Additional opportunities are available for bilingual applicants to conduct therapy in their native language if desired.
