We are a psychologist-run psychotherapy niche private practice for women, couples, and teen girls! We are passionate about creating an empowering space for anyone on the female-identified spectrum, non-binary folks, and couples. We also love to bring integrative healing modalities to our clients alongside more traditional forms of psychotherapy. Somatic therapy, breathwork, integration of spirituality and energy work, health behavior change, and Imago Relationship Therapy are all areas of special focus and interest for us at this time.

We'd love to have 2-3 clinical/counseling psychology postdoctoral residents for the 2025-2026 training year. Our postdocs build full-time caseloads (~25 client hours/week) and have ~15 hours of postdoctoral training, documentation, coordination of client care, supervision meetings, and training opportunities, all as W2 employee with benefits.

We're looking for residents who are passionate about working with our clientele, as well as developing their own specialities within our expanding client reach. We are particularly interested if you have the training - or would like to pursue training in:

  • Somatic Therapies (Somatic Experiencing, Hakomi, etc)
  • EMDR
  • Breathwork
  • Imago Relationship Therapy (we have in-house training for this!)
  • Postpartum/perinatal mental health
  • Health behavior change
  • Body image/disordered eating
  • Any healing modalities that add a body or spiritual dimension to psychotherapy (the world of healing is your oyster)

We're interested in candidates who can visualize themselves continuing their professional journey with us beyond postdoc and working with their clients longer-term. Start date is flexible and usually lands sometime in August or September, based on each postdoc's transition plans.

The environment at Balanced Awakening advances postdoc's knowledge and skills in traditional ways while also facilitating flexibility, work-life balance and self exploration so that each postdoc can live their best lives holistically. We've been training postdocs since 2018 and have celebrated the completion of 11 postdocs trained at Balanced Awakening. Please visit our website to learn more about who we are and the therapy we do.

A few other things about our Postdoc positions:

  • This is a 2,000 hour postdoctoral residency intended to give you the hour minimum for licensure in most states. Although our aim is to qualify you for licensure in the state of IL, we'd like to ensure that you have future professional mobility.
  • You'll have weekly individual supervision with our Postdoc Training Director
  • You'll have weekly group supervision with our Postdoc Training Director
  • You'll receive a $2,000 training stipend to fund educational experiences for the year including workshops, books, online or in person courses and trainings, etc. to advance clinical skills and further develop professional identity.
  • Some of your training and admin time outside of seeing clients can be allotted for EPPP study and assistance in developing a study plan.
  • You'll be able to attend monthly training/workshop/experiential virtual meetings and quarterly team meetings for support and collaboration (recent meetings have been on Breathwork, Gut-brain axis, Safe and Sound Protocol, Reiki, Brainspotting, Yoga Nidra, Essential Oils,  and more).
  • The position is full time (35-40 hours/week) with full benefits package including group sponsored health insurance (BCBS PPO), 401k with an automatic contribution on your behalf, life insurance, short and long-term disability insurance (short term could be used for maternity leave), dental insurance, and vision insurance. One week of accrued PTO, one week of accrued sick time, and one week of training specific PTO (allowing you to take paid time off of clinical work for a training "deep dive") are included.
  • Compensation is structured competitively by fluid salary based on percentage of revenue generated from client hours, which typically has been in the range of $4-7k/month, with an average of about $5,400k/month once your caseload is full. Additionally, for the first 3 months, you will receive a guaranteed minimum stipend to ensure that you have income while your caseload is building.
  • The position and all responsibilities are set up to be hybrid in-person and virtual, with at least one in person/in office day per week. Given the needs of some of our clients, we do require our postdocs to be available to see clients either 1 evening/week + Saturday morning OR 3 evenings a week. If you're really interested in this opportunity and these working hour requirements conflict with your life (or you're a morning lark and do your best work at 7a), we encourage to apply as we are open to an early morning start as an alternative to evenings.
