Position Details:
Our psychology postdoctoral fellowship program is designed to promote clinical skills development to prepare fellows for independent licensure as a psychologist. The postdoctoral fellowship is a one-year position, with funding available to extend the fellowship for a second year, contingent upon performance.
This postdoctoral fellowship position has a group psychotherapy focus. It is an excellent fit for clinicians seeking to develop or enhance group work as a clinical specialty or who are interested in honing their skills as a group therapist and supervisor to support their general professional goals.
Regular responsibilities include:
· Developing, facilitating, and supervising skills-based and process-based groups for adults. Our group focused postdoctoral fellow generally cofacilitates 5-7 groups each week and serves as a supervisor-in-training for group cofacilitators (graduate student clinicians).
· Assisting with group supervision and development and delivery of didactic training for graduate student clinicians.
· Carrying a small individual therapy caseload.
· Providing on-call supervision coverage (during business hours--no weekends).
· Program development for adult and group therapy programs.
Postdoctoral fellows may also have the opportunity to supervise 1-2 graduate student clinicians in their individual caseloads. Opportunities for community outreach, assessment, child/adolescent work, and/or research may be available if desired.
UNLV PRACTICE® is a growing clinic and we provide our postdoctoral trainees excellent, attentive, diligent supervision with opportunities to gain increased independence and to influence and build our programs alongside us.
The postdoctoral fellow is directly supervised by the clinic’s group coordinator, Dr. Amy Black (amelia.black@unlv.edu). Dr. Black is a former postdoctoral fellow of UNLV PRACTICE and a certified group psychotherapist (CGP). Questions about the group focused postdoctoral fellowship position can be directed to Dr. Black or to Dr. Michelle Paul, the UNLV PRACTICE Executive Director (michelle.paul@unlv.edu).
About UNLV PRACTICE:
UNLV PRACTICE® is an innovative and growing training clinic committed to serving the mental and behavioral health needs of a diverse community with evidence-based practices and programs for children, adolescents, and adults. In addition to individual psychotherapy, we offer and train in comprehensive psychological assessment, group psychotherapy, trauma- and grief-focused interventions, preschool-grade 12 outreach, and telehealth. We are widely recognized in the Nevada mental health community as a leader in training and accessible mental health services.
The University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV) is a doctoral-degree-granting institution of approximately 29,000 students and more than 3,000 faculty and staff that is classified R1 (research university with very high research activity) by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. UNLV is the third most ethnically diverse campus in the nation, with over 20,000 students from underrepresented groups. UNLV has been designated as an Asian-American and Native-American, Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI) and as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).
Because Nevada has a severe shortage of psychologists, there are countless opportunities to get involved and to make a tangible difference with your unique clinical interests and skills. We are part of a small yet passionate professional community eager to welcome, mentor, and support early career clinicians in their professional development and careers.
UNLV PRACTICE is committed to supporting our postdoctoral fellows as whole humans and we believe in and encourage work-life boundaries and prioritizing self-care to avoid burnout and compassion fatigue.
