Post-Doctoral Fellowship Position Our fellowship incorporates training, supervision and real work experience providing evidence-based treatments. Fellows spend time training alongside team members, attending group and individual supervision, maintain a clinical caseload of 20-25 clients and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Our ideal candidate embodies humor, quick wit, and a curious nature coupled with an organized, analytic mind. Training, Education and Support We lead the pack with cutting edge treatments and our reputation, as a practice dedicated to gold standard treatments, allows us to operate at the highest level. Our clinicians are masters of all treatments that work and we are always pushing to learn more to better ourselves and our clients-no settling. During the fellowship year at the practice, employees attend weekly intensive small group training on OC spectrum disorders, ERP, HRT, ACT and FAP to name a few. We also bring in experts/scientists, regularly, to train our entire group, we are all lifelong learners. During the last six months we hosted trainings on consensual non-monogamy, transgender letter writing and eating disorder/disordered eating treatment at an outpatient level. In 2022, we attended ABCT in New York City as a group. In addition, a hefty training budget allows employees to customize their training opportunities to build their own fingerprint as a therapist. Responsibilities Provide individual therapy to clients, utilizing effective therapeutic techniques and interventions to address a wide range of mental health issues, such as anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, OCD, and other related conditions. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists, pediatricians, social workers, and other mental health professionals, to ensure coordinated and integrated care for clients. Actively participate in professional development activities, including attending conferences, workshops and trainings, to enhance clinical skills and knowledge. Annual training budget provided for all employees. Attend weekly group supervision and individual supervision. Qualifications Ph.D. or Psy.D. BCH has been consistently rated as one of the top children’s hospitals in the United States for the past 10 years and the GeMS program was opened in 2007 as the first gender affirming clinic for youth in the country. We provide comprehensive medical and behavioral health care and support for children and youth between the ages of 3 and 25. We strongly believe in a team approach to care, and our interdisciplinary team includes social workers, psychologists, medical providers, and trainees across several disciplines. We train post-doctoral fellows to be leaders in clinical care, teaching, and research. Trainees leave our program prepared to work in a variety of healthcare settings both within and outside the field of pediatric transgender health. The postdoctoral fellowship at GeMS is a full-time, 12-month position that offers (1) specialized training in providing a range of innovative and affirming consultative psychological services to transgender and gender diverse youth; (2) research mentorship and guidance; and (3) a range of opportunities to engage in professional development and networking (e.g., presenting with GeMS psychologists at local and national conferences, participating in a multiple ongoing seminars, working with GeMS team to develop a specific-area of clinical and/or research interest). Clinical Training The fellow will have extensive pediatric clinical training that focuses on the provision of direct clinical services to transgender and gender-diverse patients and their families within an outpatient pediatric consultation model of care. The GeMS program serves patients and families of many different races and ethnicities across the larger New England area. The fellow will primarily see patients on Medicaid and will gain experience working with under-resourced, multi-stressed family systems. Many of our patients are psychosocially complex and are coping with a range of difficulties, such as anxiety and mood-related challenges, self-harm and/or suicidality, PTSD, autism spectrum disorder, substance use, psychosis, and features of personality disorders. In addition to complicated mental health histories, many of the youth seen at GeMS also manage unsupportive and non-affirming home lives, parent divorce/separation, and/or DCF-involvement or custody. Clinical services fellows will learn to provide include diagnostic assessment, psychoeducation for patients and families, hormone readiness assessments, and liaising with the interdisciplinary treatment team, outpatient therapists, primary care physicians, etc. Fellows can expect to graduate from the fellowship with specific expertise in outpatient consultation, affirming services to TGD youth through an intersectional lens, and pediatric psychology in the context of complex child and family systems. Research The GeMS program is deeply committed to engaging in cutting-edge research with a focus on addressing health disparities that TGD youth experience and informing essential clinical guidance for providing optimal care to this population of young people. The fellow can expect that approximately 20% of their time will be dedicated to applied research under the mentorship of GeMS psychology faculty. Fellows work collaboratively with the research team to determine interests and will have the opportunity to spearhead projects, join ongoing research projects, and seek out publication. Potential research activities include study design, data abstraction and analysis, and manuscript preparation. Educational Experiences: Opportunities are available for professional development including presenting and attending in a variety of academic contexts including: psychiatry grand rounds and psychology seminar. This Postdoctoral Fellowship is for a generalist college counseling center clinician; and, we currently have the following optional areas of emphasis available for applicants with experience and interest: multicultural counseling and consulting and group therapy (see summary of activities for each one below). The resident may choose to participate in or gain exposure to any of the following additional learning opportunities available at CADD: - Providing outpatient individual, family, and/or group therapy - Participation in monthly CADD Grand Rounds with staff presentations and 5 national DD experts per year - Exposure to Stepping Stones Triple P, levels 2-5, which is an evidence-based parent training program for the parents of children with a developmental disorder - Exposure to virtual consultative services to the 6 WellSpan emergency rooms for patients with developmental disorders - Exposure to office and community-based ABA services for children, adolescents, and adults The position also includes one and a half days of additional professional roles including consultation and leadership projects through CADD related to serving patients with developmental disabilities. Please see below for information about each track. • Chronic Pediatric Pain Fellowship: This fellowship will emphasize clinical training in the assessment and treatment of chronic pain in children, adolescents, and their families. A range of training experiences will be available and include the Intensive Pain Rehabilitation and Education Program, inpatient consultation, and interdisciplinary clinics, such as the Comprehensive Pain Management Clinic, the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Disease Clinic, Headache Clinic, and Burn Clinic. Within these varied settings, fellows will gain experience working with diverse medical conditions, including sickle cell disease, rheumatologic disorders, orthopedic conditions, headaches, and other organic and functional pain problems. There will also be opportunities to work with specific functional pain populations on an outpatient basis from multiple referral sources utilizing biofeedback. Fellows will be able to design their experiences based on 3-month, 6-month, and year-long rotations according to specified interests and career goals. Opportunities are available to assist in facilitating the Comfort Ability Program, which is designed to teach kids and parents skills for managing chronic pain conditions. Development of clinical programming and research will be available through each specialty area dependent on applicant’s previous experience and interests. This includes developmental care, caregiver mental health, infant-caregiver attachment behavior, early parenting, end of life care, and staff education/support. The fellow serves across multiple settings to provide training across the spectrum from initial NICU admission through transitioning home and later developmental/behavioral concerns, including feeding. The fellow will spend approximately 60% of their time in NICU providing family support interventions, 25% with early feeding clinic and outpatient interventions, and 15% outpatient brief consultation and interventions through the early developmental follow up clinic.
